Dr. Antonio Fernández-Ortiz

Dr. Fernández-Ortiz has a degree in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Madrid and a doctor in Medicine from the Complutense University. He trained as a cardiologist at the San Carlos Clinical Hospital and, after residency, consolidated his international profile as a Research Fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard University in Boston between 1992 and 1994, where he participated in pioneering studies on coronary atherothrombosis under the direction of Dr. Valentín Fuster.

He complements his academic training with a Master's Degree in Cardiovascular Critical Care from the UCM and a Master's Degree in Integrated Health Services Management from ESADE. He has developed most of his healthcare career at the San Carlos Clinical Hospital, where he has been head of the Cardiology Section since 2008.

His clinical practice has focused on highly complex coronary interventionism and, more recently, structural interventionism. Since 2022, he has been director of the Cardiovascular Institute of this center, serving as an interlocutor with the management of the Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery Services.

He has been a collaborating researcher at the Carlos III National Cardiovascular Research Center (CNIC) since 2012 and associate professor at the Complutense University of Madrid since 2005. His scientific career includes an h-index of 65, 17,035 total citations, 412 original articles and collaborations in high-impact journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, European Heart Journal, Circulation or Journal of American College of Cardiology. In addition, he co-directs the Master's Degree in Interventional Cardiology at the UCM.

Dr. Luis Nombela

Dr. Luis Nombela-Franco has a degree in Medicine and a doctor from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He completed his training in Cardiology at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital in Majadahonda and specialized in coronary and structural interventionism at the Institute of Pulmonology and Cardiology of Quebec, Canada. He is currently an interventional cardiologist and coordinator of the Structural Intervention Unit of the San Carlos Clinical Hospital in Madrid. He has an extensive research and academic career, with more than 400 scientific publications indexed in international journals. His work focuses on the treatment of valvular heart disease and structural heart diseases using minimally invasive percutaneous techniques, with special dedication to transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), mitral valve repair and replacement, closure of septal defects, and closure of the left appendage.

Dr. Iván Núñez-Gil

Dr. Iván Núñez-Gil

Dr. Iván Javier Núñez-Gil is a specialist in Cardiology and interventional cardiologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiovascular diseases. He graduated in Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid, obtaining the Extraordinary Bachelor's Award (2001), and received his doctorate from the same university with the Extraordinary Doctorate Award.

After initial training in Cardiac Surgery at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital in Madrid, he completed his specialization in Cardiology at the San Carlos Clinical Hospital, where he developed intense care and interventional activity for 19 years, participating in highly complex coronary and structural procedures.

He is currently head of the Cardiology Service at the Torrejón University Hospital (Madrid) and carries out his clinical activity as an interventional cardiologist, with special dedication to the percutaneous treatment of coronary heart disease, structural heart disease, complex arterial hypertension and other advanced cardiovascular pathologies.

He combines his healthcare work with teaching and research activity. He is a professor of Medicine at the European University of Madrid, Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and author of more than 400 scientific publications in prestigious national and international journals. Likewise, he actively participates in multicenter research projects and in the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in cardiology.

Dr. Hernán Mejía-Rentería

Dr. Hernán Mejía-Rentería

Dr. Hernán Mejía-Rentería has a degree in Medicine from the Universidad del Valle, Colombia, and obtained a doctorate in Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid. He completed his training in Cardiology at the San Carlos Clinical Hospital and later specialized in Interventional Cardiology at this same center, where he currently carries out his healthcare activity. His clinical practice focuses on coronary interventionism, the comprehensive physiology of the coronary circulation, including the assessment of microvascular dysfunction and coronary vasospasm in patients without obstructive stenosis (INOCA/MINOCA), and renal denervation for the treatment of uncontrolled or resistant arterial hypertension. Likewise, he actively participates in structural heart disease programs (TAVI) and advanced percutaneous procedures. He has a consolidated research career, with numerous scientific articles published in high-impact international journals. His main lines of research include coronary physiology, vasomotor disorders and functional angiography.
